History has been made again with another year of the anticipated ceremony, The Game Awards. This annual celebration of gaming took place a week ago from today. The rollercoaster of events has shook the gaming fanbase, setting a timeline of anticipated video games to come in the near 2026!

Announcements

As much as it is exciting that winners are revealed throughout the ceremony, it is all the more rousing when game journalist and main host Geoff Keighley hints at a new video game, announcement, reveal or update showcased shortly after. There were countless video game reveals and release dates divulged that gave the fanbase something to look forward to within the next few years, primarily 2026. The Game Awards YouTube channel posted the trailers of these upcoming games. Here are a few:

Tomb Raider

Crystal Dynamics, developers of the decades-standing Tomb Raider video games, have now returned since 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, bringing back their iconic British heroine. They bear not only one but two Tomb Raider video games, Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.

 

From the reveal trailer of Legacy of Atlantis, it showcased a fresh yet nostalgic version of Lara, donning her classic blue tank top and shorts attire which is remembered from the first ever Tomb Raider video game back in 1996. Essentially, "a fully reimagined version of Lara Croft's iconic debut adventure." Crystal Dynamics described.

 

Tomb Raider Catalyst presents a brand new chapter in Lara Croft's life of adventure in Northern India. Crystal Dynamics also explain, "Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them. When the most notorious treasure hunters from around the world descend on the region, Lara races to uncover the truth buried beneath the fractured landscape and stop those who would use its power for their own gain." 

 

Although an official release date is yet to be publicised, all fans can hold onto is its 2026 confirmation. Enthusiasts of the Tomb Raider video game series were gifted with more than they could've predicted, with two new entries coming their way soon. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S and Steam. What a treat!

Resident Evil: Requiem/Leon Kennedy's Return

On the topic of iconic characters, survival horror's most popular protagonist Leon Kennedy, most beloved from 2005's Resident Evil 4 was officially revealed to be the deuteragonist in Resident Evil: Requiem alongside protagonist Grace Ashcroft.

Leon is a fan-favourite within the Resident Evil community, with a return since Resident Evil 6. Now many years into his profession, currently a US government agent fighting bioterrorism, he's aged tumultuously since his debut as a rookie cop in Resident Evil 2, surviving the apocalypse in Raccoon City on his first day on the job.

Street Fighter (2026)

During the ceremony, the charismatic cast for the thrilling Street Fighter movie adaptation out next year graced the stage to celebrate the unveiling of their movie's teaser trailer before presenting the award for Best Ongoing Game.

The feel of the trailer from it's visuals and background music being Punk Tactics by Joey Valence & Brae, exuded this colourful mischief, exhilarating set and costume design, thrilling visuals with a campy and energetic tone.
